LESSON 03 OF 03 · WRITTEN GUIDE

Critique the first draft

Treat the first screen as a hypothesis. Review the hierarchy before polishing the shadows. Then walk through the task with realistic content, a narrow viewport, and keyboard navigation. AI can help generate a review, but you must inspect the result and decide which findings are real.

Make it practical

Create a short critique with three columns: observation, effect on the user, and proposed change. Choose the most consequential issue, make one change, and inspect the result. Save a before-and-after comparison.

TRY THIS PROMPT

Review this screen against the project brief. Separate observable issues from preferences. Prioritize problems that stop someone from saving a book. Suggest one change at a time and explain how I can check it.

Check your work

Can a new visitor identify what to do? Does the task have a clear end state? Did the change improve the task rather than only change the decoration?

Keep the human in the loop.

Use the output as a draft. Compare it with the brief, inspect the work, and keep the decisions you can explain.
